La Maison Couture are delighted to present the Kaligarh contemporary jewellery collection and support their incredible work. Kaligarh (meaning “artisan” in Nepali) is a contemporary jewellery brand founded by Jyoti Upadhyay which promotes the work of Himalayan artisans and creates opportunities for local Nepal craftsmen.

The Himalaya is an astonishing region of natural beauty and especially vulnerable to environmental change, including global warming. Thus, sustainability is key to Kaligarh’s ethos and production strategy. The devastating Nepal Earthquake in 2015 killed close to 9,000 people and displaced almost a million Nepalis including members of the Kaligarh team. Throughout the last year, Kaligarh has been committed to supporting those affected, by helping to reconstruct homes, create more employment and rebuild lives.

Kaligarh aims to promote the work of Himalayan artisans in their designs. Each piece is hand-crafted by small-scale artisans and plays with motifs and designs which are inherited from past generations, turning fading artistic traditions into beautifully crafted contemporary jewellery pieces. Kaligarh is a Fair Trade Supplier by the British Association of Fair Trade Shops and a member of the Ethical Fashion Forum.
